Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. is voluntarily recalling all lots of 5 Neutrogena® and Aveeno® aerosol sunscreen product lines to the consumer level due to the presence of benzene identified from internal testing.
The recalled aerosol sunscreen products were distributed nationwide through a variety of retail channels. The product images and lot information can be found at www.Neutrogena.com and www.Aveeno.com. The affected products include:
- Neutrogena® Beach Defense® aerosol sunscreen,
- Neutrogena® Cool Dry Sport aerosol sunscreen,
- Neutrogena® Invisible Daily™ defense aerosol sunscreen,
- Neutrogena® Ultra Sheer® aerosol sunscreen, and
- Aveeno® Protect + Refresh aerosol sunscreen.
Though classified as a human carcinogen, the Company noted in a statement that daily exposure to these recalled products, which contain a low level of benzene, is not expected to cause adverse health consequences. The recall is being initiated out of an abundance of caution.
Adverse events associated with these products should be reported to the FDA’s MedWatch Program. Consumers are being advised to discontinue use of the affected products. Refund requests can be made by contacting the JJCI Consumer Care Center at (800) 458-1673.
